Hello all, time for another update and a chance to think of all our family and friends that we miss.

It was my birthday on 3 May and I had a lovely surprise when we went for dinner in the Prestige  restaurant.
It was all decorated up with birthday greetings, see the pictures on the photos link below.

We are both doing ok. I still have to have an eye injection each month but hopefully the frequency may become less often. I have built a karaoke system and already have 4 extra singers for a karaoke night now and again. We have both tried Thai Chi but have decided it is not for us. It makes Gill giddy and we both prefer the Gym.  Its now the middle of the wet season. May, June and July were very hot high 30s rain now and again lasting half to one hour, August has cooled down a bit but more rain more frequent and lasting longer. Not too bad really but not much blue sky this month.

We have made friends with two nice couples. Chris and Marina and Barbara and Len. Chris is German, Marina is Burmese and Barbara and Len are from Australia. Prestige holds a free cocktail party for its residents each month which is where we met our new friends and other acquaintances. They also hold a free afternoon tea party and also a barbecue event each month.

We have been out and about since the last update. We spent a couple of weeks in Jomtien where we used to holiday. Attended the Buddha shrine blessing at the entrance to Sunshine Prestige.  Had a weekend away at a local hotel by the sea on Gill's birthday. Visited a Site dedicated to a famous monk, and visited one of the National parks where animals roam wild including elephants. There are photos of all these events via the link below.

Best wishes to you all from Mick and Gill.

We have our routine life now in our new country. We have registered with a family doctor and have no health issues so far. We now have our Thai driving licenses. We take the free shuttle bus and spend a day on the beach once a week, the umbrella's are well organised and you can order drinks and lunch brought to your sunbed. It is a pleasure shopping, we have English TV thanks to Rick and there are lots of new places to visit.
We have tried Thai Chi and Thai massages and we frequent the gym, all onsite.
The cost of living is very cheap here unless you choose lots of western imported foods.
The staff at Prestige are wonderful, always a smile and they work hard. Looking after the pool and garden and cleaning our villa twice a week is included in the rental as is the free shuttle bus and other services.
The weather is wonderful. It is a nice life.
The wet season is approaching now, a new experience for us. We will let you know how wet it gets.

Some of the trips we have done are shown in pictures and videos. Links to them are below.

Darren and Judy visited in January but could not return as planned because of the Iran war. However this gave them a longer holiday in the sun and in their lovely condo overlooking the sea.

The Thai New Year and Songkran festival took place 13 - 15th April and was celebrated at Sunshine Prestige by residents and all the staff. Songkran is celebrated as a time of purification, renewal and family reunions. The festival involves widespread joyous water splashing to wash away bad luck. Monks attended Prestige and gave blessings and received gifts from residents. A friendly water fight, which is a tradition, took place among residents and staff. This tradition takes place in all public places and you cannot go out without getting wet.

We send our best wishes to all our relations and friends. We miss you all.

We would like to wish you a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous, safe, and healthy New Year.

We have settled in now and are enjoying our new life in our new Country, the Land of Smiles.
We have our Visa's and our bank accounts, an all electric car (I said I would never do that), our favourite
supermarket store and we have replaced the things we had to leave behind. The 'still on holiday feeling' is starting to fade.

We are missing you.

Communicating with Thai people is much more difficult than it was when we arrived in Cyprus. Ok in hotels and large shops in tourist areas but quite difficult elsewhere and it can cause misunderstandings. We have now got a portable translator.
When you visit a bank you take a ticket, sit down and wait to be called. Always seems busy and can be a long wait. Even worse at immigration offices. Need to get a Thai driving licence soon and that doesn't sound easy.

Is it all worth it?
Oh Yes.
The Thai's are lovely people and we feel welcomed and safe and there is plenty to see and do. The shops are good and most things seem a lot cheaper over here. It cost 250 euros to have my flightsim computer taken apart and packed properly for travelling - it cost 1000 baht (that is 27 euros) to put it together and test it by very competent technicians.

In the new year we will have a large country to explore and we look forward to telling you about it.
